<p>Provided is a virtual reality system in which images representing a virtual environment are displayed to a user by a head-mountable display (HMD). The system comprises a boundary detector configured to detect, with respect to the physical environment around the user, a boundary of an activity area. A virtual reality generator is configured to vary the users interaction with the virtual reality environment according to the users physical position with respect to the boundary of the activity area. The virtual reality generator may be configured to warn the user if the user approaches the boundary of the activity area. The user may be warned if the user is less than a threshold distance from the boundary and the nature of the warning may be changed in response to the user moving closer to the boundary than the threshold distance. The boundary detector may be configured to detect the location of one or more markers 410 in the physical environment, the markers indicating respective reference positions with respect to the boundary.</p> |
