599067 Disclosed herein are fatty acid niacin conjugates of formula I, wherein the variables are defined in the specification; compositions comprising an effective amount of a fatty acid niacin conjugate; and methods for treating or preventing an metabolic disease comprising the administration of an effective amount of a fatty acid niacin conjugate. Suitable fatty acids include α-linolenic acid, stearidonic acid, eicosatrienoic acid, eicosatetraenoic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, tetracosapentaenoic acid, and tetracosahexaenoic acid. In one embodiment the compound is N-(2-(5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z,17Z)-eicosa-5,8,11,14,17-pentaenamidoethyl)nicotinamide.
