A fitting for supporting a fluorescent tube and a translucent envelope surrounding the tube consists of a supporting bar carrying a fixed end box and an end box which is movable along and rotatable about the bar, each box having a bore to receive one end of the envelope and electrical connections for the tube. The bar 1 is threaded at one end to engage a threaded bore 18 on the fixed box 2 and has a section 20 of reduced diameter at the other end on which the box 3 can slide and rotate. A member 22 having a threaded bore 23 to receive the end of a captive bolt 24 on the box 3 is secured to the inner end of the part 20. The boxes have bores 4, 5 to receive the ends of metal ferrules 6, 7 secured to the envelope 8, the ferrule 7 having a flange 28 engaging behind a projection 30 on the member 22 to retain the envelope in position when the box 3 is withdrawn. The tube 9 is held centrally in the envelope by leaf springs 11. The bar 1 also carries clips 31, 32 engaging the envelope to which it is also connected by a cord 33. |
