<p>The invention comprises esters of the diiodobenzoic acids with alcohols HO-Y-OR, wherein Y is C2- 4 alkylene and R is C1- 6 alkyl or C1- 6 alkoxyalkyl and a method for making the esters by reacting a diiodobenzoyl halide with the appropriate alcohol. The preparation of 2,5-diiodobenzoic acid esters in which Y is ethylene and R is ethyl, n-butyl and 2-methoxyethyl is described and other esters of the invention are also mentioned. The 2,5-diiodobenzoyl chloride (starting material) is prepared from the acid using thionyl chloride.ALSO:Resin compositions contain as plasticizer a radiopaque compound which is a diiodobenzoic acid ester with an alcohol HO-Y-OR, wherein Y is C2-4 alkylene and R is C1-6 alkyl or C1-6 alkoxyalkyl. In examples, tubings were prepared from compositions containing polyvinyl chloride, 2-ethoxyethyl-2, 5-diiodobenzoate, an epoxidised oil and a calcium zinc stabilizer and either di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate or 1,3-butyleneglycol di-methacrylate; in the latter case, the mix was polymerized with dicumyl peroxide. Also mentioned as a suitable resin base is polyvinyl acetate.</p> |
