<p>A system and method for processing a payment at a point-of-sale terminal in a mobile device-based electronic payment system. The method includes initiating an app on a mobile device of a user, transmitting a first security code request to a security code server, and receiving a first security code from a security code server. A bar code is determined based at least in part on the received first security code. The bar code represents data for authenticating the user when read by a bar code scanner.
