968,028. Belt tensioning arrangements. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. Feb. 17, 1961 [Feb. 19, 1960], No. 6035/61. Heading F2Q. Automatic adjustment of belt tension in a washing machine drive wherein a reversible motor M drives through a belt 17 pulleys 20, 15 respectively fast with a pump 17 and a wash agitator or spin tub, is effected by pivotally mounting the motor on a fixed plate 36 so that it pivots from one predetermined position (Fig. 2) to another (Fig. 3, not shown) on motor reversal and under varying load moves pivotally about the predetermined positions to vary belt tension. The motor M is rigidly secured to a plate 23 which, as shown, carries pins 45, 46 engaging cam slats 42, 43 in the plate 36 whilst the motor shaft 19 passes through a slot 44 connecting the slots 42, 43. The motor is initially urged into engagement with the belt by a spring 82. In Figs. 8-10 (not shown) the plate 36 carries the pins which engage cam slots in the plate fast with the motor. |
