An apparatus and a method for driving a direct AC LED are disclosed. The LED driving apparatus comprises: an AC power which provides an alternating current having a ripple component; a first to N (N is a natural number not less than 1) LED module; a LED module unit; a charge and discharge unit; and a control unit. According to an embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus and a method for driving a LED which does not flashes are provided even when a full-wave rectified AC power is applied by providing a charged voltage by using a capacitor when a voltage, which is lower than a driving voltage of LED, is applied.
