The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for filtering section data, capable of managing section data by channel IDs and PIDs and performing a section filtering and enabling CRC in a transport stream (TS) from a multichannel which is suitable for being used in a digital set-top box, especially in a low power set-top box. The apparatus and the method enable a CRC error check and filtering of section data for various packets through a section filter composition memory unit and uses a matching of registers for a matching of the section filter composition memory unit according to the channel IDs and the PIDs. The present invention reduces the burden of software and enables the CRC error check and filtering of section data for various packets by performing the matching of the section filter composition memory unit according to the channel IDs and the PIDs by using a matching of hardware through a register.
