A spring-loaded diaphragmoperated gas governor responsive to outlet pressure on the diaphragm 40 to operate, through a coupled lever 20, a valve member 13, 16 controlling the inlet 15, and adapted to close completely when the outlet pressure falls below a predetermined value, is provided with a device whereby the valve can be closed manually to shut off the flow or can be re-opened after it has closed automatically. The device comprises means whereby a lifting movement is imparted to a member 55 firstly to relax the loading spring 53 by relieving a top abutment 52 and then to lift the diaphragm directly along with the spring through a stem 50 connected to the diaphragm. The member 55 has diametrically opposite pins 56 engaged in helical slots 66 in a fixed cover 41 of the valve body, these pins engaging also in longitudinal grooves 63 in a manually rotatable knob 60 whereby the lifting movement is imparted. Member 55 carries a screwed adjuster 54 engaging the top spring abutment which takes up against a ring 49 of the stem 50 as the member is lifted. Lever 20 is pivotally carried on an extension of the valve member 13 and has bearing parts 24, 25 on opposite sides of the pivot 21 which bear against a fixed plate 30, so that on lifting the member 55 manually the lever bears at the part 25 to close the valve and similarly in the position of automatic operation, on fall of outlet pressure below a predetermined minimum the lever bears at the part 24 to close the valve. The valve may then be re-set to open position by lifting the member 55 so that a flange 59 of this member engages a bottom abutment 51 of the spring. The opposite ends of the slots 66 have enlarged recesses wherein the pins 56 engage to lock the valve in closed or open position.
