An electrostatic precipitator comprises a casing 1 housing a plurality of parallel rows 4, 5 of plate electrodes 4a, 5a all of which are of the same elongated cross-section in the plane of the row (which is parallel to the gas flow through the casing) and all of which have both their end edges provided with emitting elements 6 so that each electrode functions both as an emitting and a collecting electrode, adjacent rows 4, 5 being of opposite polarity and the electrodes in each row being staggered longitudinally of the row with respect to the electrodes of the adjacent row or rows. As shown, the emitting elements 6 comprise flaps cut and bent out of the plane of the electrode at each end thereof, adjacent elements 6 in each row being suitably disposed at different levels. Alternatively, serrated edged strips may be welded to each end of each electrode. |
