968,725. Bearings; lubricating. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Jan. 1, 1963 [Jan. 2, 1962], No. 123/62. Heading F2A. A thrust bearing comprises a lower support pad 10 and an upper pressure pad 12, the pads being relatively rotatable. The pads are formed with complementary spherical surfaces 11, 13 separated by a layer of oil 41 fed to the space through an inlet 40. A ring 17 surrounds the pad 12 and carries sealing rings 21, 22, 23 while a flexible membrane 37 is secured to the pad 10 and the ring 17 to seal the oil space. The arrangement is such that the pads can slide relatively to one another to allow for slight tilting. The inlet 40 may be blanked off or connected to an indicator which registers the thrust by the oil pressure in the space. A filler ring 43 reduces the volume of oil required. |
