A method of capturing carbon dioxide, the method comprises the steps of: providing a cellulosic material which carries an amino compound; and contacting the cellulosic material with a composition comprising carbon dioxide; wherein a portion of the heat energy produced is captured. Preferably the cellulosic material is a fibrous material and the amino compound is selected from alkylamines, alkanolamines and ammonia. The carbon dioxide may be derived from an exhaust gas of a combustion system and is exothermic when in contact with the cellulosic material, therefore generating heat. The material obtained by the method may be used for storing and transporting carbon dioxide, or as a fertiliser. Also claimed is the step of using a portion of the heat energy produced to heat fibres previously treated thereby releasing carbon dioxide from the material. |
