<p>The present invention relates to an aperture protector for an optical remote sensing Instrument, such as those used to measure the properties of the atmosphere including wind, cloud base height, turbulence and aerosol concentration, for example. The aperture protector 1 comprises a housing 2 defining an opening shaped and dimensioned to substantially cover an aperture of an optical remote sensing instrument. The protector further comprises at least one elongate member 7 extending from the housing. The at least one elongate member defines an elongate passageway (11) in communication with the opening provided by the housing. The longitudinal axis of the elongate passageway extends at an oblique angle to the plane defined by the opening. The at least one elongate member provides at least one fluid outlet (16). The housing may further comprise an air recirculation mechanism such as a fan, a blower or a fan heater arranged in use to provide air flow across the aperture.</p> |
