The invention relates to a method for monitoring the operation of a drive engine (2), having the following steps: ° - actuation of the drive engine (2) by way of an actuating variable (S) which is generated as a function of an external parameter (FWM) according to an actuating function; ° - monitoring of the actuating variable (S) by way of a threshold value comparison with an actuating-variable threshold value (MTHR), wherein the actuating-variable threshold value (MTHR) is generated as a function of an actuating-variable request, generated with the aid of a monitoring function, and an actuating-variable offset (MOffset), wherein the monitoring function represents an independent reproduction of the actuating function, wherein the actuating-variable offset (MOffset) is selected variably as a function of an operating range of the drive engine (2). One concept of the method consists in providing a monitoring function, in which a torque threshold value is provided with an offset on one torque level, wherein the offset is reduced in an overrun-mode range for improved fault discrimination in the overrun mode of the internal combustion engine. |
