<p>A metamaterial 14 comprises an array of conductive tracks where at least one conductive track has a different length, width or thickness to that of at least one of the other conductive tracks. The conductive tracks are formed in an array of unit cells. The unit cells may form a two dimensional array or a stack of such arrays. The unit cells may be formed in or on a dielectric substrate 3 and possibly on opposed surfaces of the substrate. A conductive track for a unit cell, or each unit cell of an array, may include an asymmetric split ring resonator where the conductive track may have various portions of different sizes or shapes such that they resonate at different frequencies. One or more unit cell elements may be omitted to leave an empty region within the array. The metamaterial 14 may be placed between two or more antennas 1, 2 to improve isolation between the antennas.</p> |
