Shaped part (40) is formed by heating blank of hardenable steel alloy with infrared lamps to below upper transformation temperature (AC 3) of alloy, heating differentially first regions of blank to above AC 3point of alloy and maintaining other regions below AC 3point of alloy, and hardening first regions.
