A device and a method for controlling power consumption of a USB(Universal Serial Bus) type network device connected to a host in a communication system are provided to enable the idle state USB type network device process connected to a USB port, which supports a selective suspend mode, to process data received from the host using a Windows OS(Operating System)-based in the communication system. A USB type network device supports a selective suspend mode, and is operated in an idle or active state depending on data transceiving. A host(510) is operated based on a Windows OS, is connected to the USB-type network device through a USB port, a mini port driver(512), and an arbitration driver(518). The mini port driver controls power supply in the idle and active state depending on the selective suspend mode of the USB-type network device. The arbitration driver controls the power supply of the idle state USB-type network device by calling the mini port driver directly. |
