An apparatus and method for cooperatively operating mobile communication and short range wireless communication in a mobile terminal are provided to minimize power consumption of a mobile terminal according to interworking mobile communication with short-range wireless communication. A storage unit(120) stores location information of a short-range wireless communication area. A GPS receiver(110) receives a GPS satellite signal to obtain location information of a mobile terminal. A location comparing unit(130) compares the location information obtained by the GPS receiver and the location information of the storage unit to check whether the mobile terminal is located at the short-range wireless communication area. Only when the mobile terminal is checked to be located at the short-range wireless communication area, a controller(140) controls a short-range wireless communication module(160) to be driven. |
