A quick-release buckle for safety harnesses has a male member which can be received in and engaged by detent members in a female member, and an element which is displaceable between locking and unlocking positions, corresponding to locked and unlocked positions of the male and female members, by a force parallel to the direction of insertion of the male member into the female member. As shown in Fig. 1 the female member 30 consists of two plates 38, 39 between which is slidably mounted a spring- biased release element 41, while the male member 31 consists of an apertured plate. To fasten the buckle, the male member 31 is slid into the female member 30 to push the release element 41 against springs 50 until the apertures 32 and 33 fall over the detents 36 and 37, Fig. 4. The element 41 thus springs back to the right over member 31 to hold the latter in place. A bar 63 or a projecting handle attached to the element 41 is retracted by hand to allow release of the buckle. To allow adjustment of the end of the belt 67 a knurled pin, sliding in slots in the plates 38 and 39 may be provided. In a further embodiment, Fig. 14, the male member 81 is held in its locked position by a spring-loaded cam element 94, release being effected by pulling a sliding handle 104 in the direction of insertion of the male member against a spring 107, so that projections 110 on the handle rotate the cam element and a shoulder 112 holds the cam element in this position, the number 81 then being free to be withdrawn. Slots 105 are provided for movement of member 104 relative to the cam element, and slots 118 allow adjustment of the length of belt 82. In modifications of the buckle a latch may be provided in addition to the cam element and the pin 121 may be replaced by an upstanding flange on the frame 88, and projection 110 may be replaced by a pivoted plate connected to the shoulder of the female member. |
