973,247. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. March 23, 1961 [April 13, 1960], No. 13119/60. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre has a tread reinforcement 8 of parallel metal cords extending across and within the tread 3 with their edges projecting laterally from each side thereof, said edges being embedded in a rubber 9, of softer composition than that of the tread 3, which is moulded integrally with the tread rubber to form a circumferential axially projecting rib 9a on each side of the tread. The cords may extend at 90 degrees to the circumferential direction and may be incorporated in the tread of an integral carcase and tread unit, or as shown, may be incorporated in a detachable tread band which seats in a circumferential recess 5 in the outer periphery of a separate carcase unit. In this case, the reinforcement 8 is superposed on a further tread reinforcement 7 of circumferentially extending steel cords, and the base of the carcase recess 5 is moulded with circumferential ribs 6 to mate with complementary grooves 11 in the inner periphery of the tread band. In each case the carcase may have radial cord reinforcement 4. |
