Cathodic protection against corrosion in grounded metallic pipes and structures, which comprises a self-regulated AC to DC rectifier. The DC supplied to the metallic pipe or structure is maintained within the pre-established limits by connecting and disconnecting a plurality of resistances by electromagnetic relays acting in response to control signals emitted by a controller. The loop effect of the current produced by the rectifier is minimized and controlled within a limit pre-established by at least one capacitor connected between the output conductors of the rectifier. The system of the invention is particularly useful in places where the AC source has important voltage peaks that destroy the systems based on electronic components intended to regulate the DC supplied to the metallic pipe or structure.
