A screen converting method and a set-top box performing the same are provided. The screen converting method in which the set-top box converts a screen mode of a display device includes the following steps of: outputting a partial display mode user interface which arranges, in a vertical direction, an update situation bar which displays the data update situation of real-time services which are performed in the display device on the content screen of the display device, a search bar for searching the services, and a category bar which displays the services according to categories and has an icon subset display window in which multiple icons which belongs to a corresponding category are arranged in the lower part; receiving a user input signal, which is predefined by a remote control, by the set-top box; and converting the partial display mode user interface into a whole display mode user interface which arranges the category bar in the top and arranges the icon subset display window in the lower part of the category bar over the whole screen.
