The present invention relates to a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery prepared with: a carbon material; and a coating layer which is formed on the surface of the carbon material particle, and which is formed with silicon-based domains having the size an average diameter below 1μm. The cathode active material, of the present invention, prepared with the silicon-based domain coating layer on the surface of the carbon material, is capable of alleviating a stress generated by the alloying of lithium and silicon. The method for manufacturing the cathode active material, according to the present invention, is capable of readily controlling the thickness of the coating layer. |
