A resin bonded mine roof bolt (10) has a segmented resin compression layer (112) that covers a portion of the rod. When installed in a mine roof bore 5 hole with curable resin, the resin compression layer mixes the resin and partially fills the bore hole (12) to minimize the amount of resin needed to anchor the bolt (10).
