PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate positioning of a laser beam with respect to a wave guide while employing an end surface light emission type laser diode as a light source for emitting light used for generating near field light.SOLUTION: A heat-assisted magnetic recording head 200 includes a slider 201, an end surface light emission type laser diode 202 fixed to the slider 201, and an external mirror 203 provided at the outside of the slider 201. The slider 201 includes a magnetic pole, the wave guide, a near field light emission element, and a substrate. The laser diode 202 includes an active layer, an emission end face arranged at an end of the active layer in a direction parallel to the active layer surface and having an emission section of the laser beam, and a lower face arranged at an end of the active layer in a direction perpendicular to the active layer. The lower face is arranged so as to face toward an upper face 201c of the slider 201. The external mirror 203 reflects the laser beam emitted from the emission section toward the wave guide. |
