An electrical connector comprises a first (1, 10) and a second (2, 20) connector member, which can be coupled to each other, and a connector position assurance element (3, 30) slidably mountable on the first (1, 10) connector member. The connector position assurance element (3, 30) has a first, preliminary mounting position in which said connector position assurance element (3, 30) can advance no further since it comes into engagement with a stop surface (1a, 18b) of the first connector member (1, 10), if the second (2, 20) connector member is not yet coupled there within. The connector position assurance element (3, 30) has a second, final position, which it can reach only after complete coupling of the two connector members, in which the connector position assurance element (3, 30) engages beyond a stop element (2a, 20b) of the second connector member. The connector position assurance element (30) has at least a first engagement portion (30b) and at least a second engagement portion (30a) spaced from each other in a longitudinal direction of the connector position assurance element, which cooperate respectively, one with the stop surface (1a, 18b) of the first connector member in the first, preliminary mounting position and the other with the stop element (2a, 20b) of the second connector member in the second, final position. |
