The apparatus has an intermediate station which is provided with a depositing area for depositing the workpieces, and a removal region for removing the workpieces. A transport device is provided for transporting workpieces randomly arranged on the transport unit by the deposition region towards the removal region. The transport device has a circulating conveyor track for the workpieces. A position changing device is provided, through which the workpieces go in circulation.
