The present invention relates to a gas spring with safety system which permits the discharge of high-pressure gas contained in the spring in the event that an overstroke is produced in the piston rod (1) of the spring where said safety system comprises a gas evacuation channel (19) disposed on the piston rod (1) which in turn comprises a first aperture (20) connected to the compression chamber (2) for a stroke of the piston rod (1) greater to its nominal stroke by a present value, and a second aperture (21) for discharging the gas to the exterior of the gas spring.
