The furniture i.e. working table (1), has spindle drives synchronously movable via a connecting bar (11) by a positioning unit (9). The bar stays in drive connection with a gear of gear heads (7, 8). The bar implements a cavity of a spiral coiled spring or a helical spring (12). The spring is fixedly connected with bar. The spring stays in rotary drive connection with a rotary drive (15) so that a rotary drive force is transferred into the bar by twisting and consequently pretensioning the spring. Supporting devices (5, 6) carry a vertically adjustable support plate (2) e.g. table surface.
