A separator for the separation of conductive particles within a particulate stream the separator including: at least one magnetic array for the generation of a magnetic field the magnetic array including plurality of magnetic elements arranged in series wherein adjacent elements in the series are of opposite polarities; a material feed for feeding said particulate stream through said magnetic field to alter the trajectory of the conductive particles from the particle stream to a collection point.
