[Also in Division H2] An electromagnet has an armature 15 pivoted adjacent the free end of the intermediate leg 12 of an E-shaped core, around each of whose outermost legs 11, 13 is wound a coil 17, 18. The coils 17, 18 are wound such that when one is energized it neutralizes the residual flux in the other outer leg. The air gap (a) between the armature 15 and the intermediate leg 12 must always be less than the air gap (b) between the armature and the outer leg in the closed position. The travel of the armature may be adjusted by movable stops 20. |
