Halogenated solid polymers and interpolymers of ethylene are cured by heating, if desired under pressure, with sulphur and a Group II metal oxide and preferably also a rubber vulcanization accelerator and/or filler, e.g. carbon black, to a temperature of at least 100 DEG C. for at least 15 minutes. Metal oxides specified are zinc, magnesium, calcium and barium oxides. The vulcanization accelerator may be 2-mercaptothiazoline, piperidinium pentamethylenedithiocarbamate, mercaptobenzothiazole, diphenylguanidine, benzothiazyl disulphide, tetramethyl and tetraethyl thiuram disulphides, tetramethylthiuram monosulphide, tetramethyl-, tetraethyl-, tetrabutyl-, dipentamethylene-, di-(phenylmethyl)- and di-(phenylethyl)- thiuram tetrasulphides. The thiuram tetrasulphides liberate sulphur during the curing process and their use renders the presence of additional sulphur unnecessary. Antioxidants, lubricants, e.g. stearic acid, stabilizers, rosin, hydrogen chloride, inhibitors, e.g. potassium hydroxide and calcium phosphate, and blowing agents may be added. The interpolymers may be formed from mono-olefines, vinyl and vinylidene compounds, e.g. vinyl acetate or unsaturated acid esters. Specifications 471,590, 481,515, 492,322, 497,643 and U.S.A. Specifications 1,634,925 and 1,681,717 are referred to.
