The steam iron comprises a valve unit (3) for switching and controlling a passage (46) between a water tank (38) and a steam chamber of the steam iron. A valve element is provided with a valve section (8), which has a sealing surface (16) for attaching with a steam chamber sided valve seat surface (100). An actuating element (4) is provided for actuating the valve element. The valve element is formed in one-piece. The sealing surface is an annular surface of an elastic collar radially projecting from a valve element body (14). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a water treatment device for a steam iron; and (2) a method for positioning a water treatment agent in a water tank of a steam iron.
