Particles for increasing the hydrogen peroxide radical resistance in a membrane electrode assembly comprising:
a metal oxide from the group of alumina, silica, TiO 2 , Ti 2 O 3 , zirconium oxide, manganese dioxide, manganese oxide, Y 2 O 3 , Fe 2 O 3 , FeO, tin oxide, copper oxide, nickel oxide, tungsten oxide, germania, CeO 2 , Ce 2 O 3 , and combinations thereof,
a stabilizer effective to maintain the particles as a sol in an aqueous medium and selected from the group of metal ions and semi-metal ions consisting of aluminum, boron, tungsten, titanium, zirconium and vanadium ions, and combinations thereof, and
at least one catalyst different from the stabilizer and selected from the group of cerium metal, cerium ions, ruthenium metal, and ruthenium ions, and wherein
said particles are surface-modified colloidal particles containing on their surface said stabilizer and said catalyst. |
