A transmitter (100) sends an original signal on a noisy channel (20) and also at the transmitter divides (104) the signal into first and second parts, retains the first part (40) and calculates (107) and sends (108) a first Slepian-Wolf syndrome of the first part along a clear channel (30). A receiver (200, fig.2, not shown), receives the original signal and the first syndrome. The receiver also divides the received original signal into third and fourth parts corresponding to the first and second parts respectively, retains the fourth part and calculates and sends a second Slepian-Wolf syndrome of the fourth part to the transmitter along the clear channel. The transmitter and receiver are now able to reconstruct the same data signal from their respective retained signal parts and received syndromes. Applications include quantum key distribution (QKD).
|
