An organic electronic device structure, such as an active matrix organic light emitting diode, the structure comprising: a substrate, a bank layer 504 supported by the substrate and defining a well 502 for solvent-based deposition of organic electronic material, the structure further comprising a fillet layer 1102 patterned to define a fillet at an inside edge of the well 502 and at the base of well. The fillet (or sidewall or spacer) may preferably be hydrophilic in nature and may be an oxide or nitride of silicon. The bank layer may have a thickness which tapers towards the substrate as a side of the well is approached, and the fillet may overlie the tapered part of the bank layer. In another aspect of the invention, a method is disclosed for the fabrication of the organic electronic device in which at least one of the wells receives a solvent-based deposition of organic electronic material, the method including depositing a fillet layer and anisotropically etching the fillet layer to define a fillet at an inside edge of the well prior to solvent-based deposition of the organic electronic material for fabricating the device. |
