Disclosed is a binder resin for a toner which contains a styrene-acrylic resin having a gel component and a small amount of a volatile component. Also disclosed are a method for producing the binder resin and a toner employing the binder resin. A binder resin (A) for a toner contains a styrene-acrylic resin having a structure derived from a carboxyl group and a structure derived from a glycidyl group, wherein the content (A IS ) of a gel component is 1 mass % ‰¤ A IS ‰¤ 50 mass % and the content (A VO ) of a volatile component in the resin is A VO ‰¤ 200 ppm.
