PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform high performance linear detection in a multiple redundant system, with a simple structure by a combination of detection coils and a long magnetic member. SOLUTION: In a linear sensor according to the invention, side portion directions (43a, 44a) at respective side portions (43, 44) of a long magnetic member (40) are not perpendicular to a core width direction (C) perpendicular to a core length direction (B) of an E-type core (31), and a redundant detection is performed, by first and second detection coils (2, 2A) provided on a plurality of detection stators (30-30B), on a relative movement between the long magnetic member (40) and the detection stator (30) in a state in which they are not in contact with each other.
