<p>A system and method for retreading an air-maintenance tire is disclosed. The system comprises a tire casing for a worn air-maintenance tire having remaining tread material ground off the tire casing, a contoured piece (1)temporarily secured around a structure (19) secured to the inner surface of the tire casing, a retread element placed on the ground tire casing, and a bladder inflatable within an internal cavity of the tire casing and around the contoured piece in such a way that the bladder does not contact the structure. The bladder is for providing heat for securing the retread element to the tire casing. The method comprises: grinding a remaining tread material from the tire casing, temporarily securing the contoured piece around the structure, placing a tread on the tire casing, inflating the bladder within an internal cavity of the tire casing and around the contoured piece (1) whereby the bladder does not contact the structure (19), securing the tread to the tire casing, deflating the bladder, separating the tire casing and tread secured to the tire casing from the bladder, and removing the contoured piece from the tire casing.</p> |
