[Also in Division F2] A rope, wire, or stay, tensioning device, operating by bending the rope, wire or stay, comprises a lever arm 7 with a free running guide arrangement at one end which in use receives a portion of said rope wire or stay such that said portion passing through the guide arrangement forms on angle of substantially 90‹ with the lever arm. As shown the guide arrangement is a channel 5 formed in a disc 4 at one end of the lever arm 7. A rope passing through the channel comprises a part 1 carrying a hook, not shown, for attachment to the deck of a ship and a loop 2 passing through the eye of a second hook, not shown, for attachment to a mobile object which is to be secured to the deck. The loop 2 terminates in a loop 9 passing through a hole 8 in the disc 4. In use the hooks are attached to the deck and the mobile object, and the lever arm is held substantially at right angles to the direction of the rope and slid therealong to a pre-tensioning position. The lever arm is then swung through 90‹ so that its axis becomes approximately parallel with the direction of the rope as shown in Fig. 2 to produce extra-tensioning in the rope. The lever arm is held in the position shown by a hook 11 thereon engaging the part 1 of the rope. |
