<p>Aliphatic glycols are purified by treating them with 0.5-10% by weight of water and 0.001-0.1% by weight of magnesium oxide, heating the resulting mixture for 30-90 minutes under reflux to the boiling temperature of the glycol and then distilling off the glycol. Preferably the heating under reflux and subsequent distillation may be carried out under reduced pressure. An example is given of the purification of ethylene glycol.</p> |
