Disclosed are an electronic tag recognition device and method. The electronic tag recognition device includes: an RF transmission block generating a carrier having a predetermined amplitude to form an RF field on an antenna; a power level detection block generating a digital signal corresponding to a power level which is the amplitude of the carrier to form the RF field by using an analog signal input from the antenna; and a proximity detection unit recognizing that the electronic tag is within a predetermined distance if the power level corresponding to the generated digital signal corresponds to a level value below the specified power level value.
