A method for operating an image sensor according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: generating a plurality of sub-pixel signals by a sub-pixel group, each of which includes a plurality of sub-pixels and corresponds to one pixel; and generating a pixel signal having a plurality of bits based on a comparison result of the plurality of sub-pixel signals each with a reference voltage. Each of the plurality of sub-pixels is 1 transistor (1T) pixel which includes only one transistor and generates a sub-pixel signal in a digital form by detecting at least one photocharge.
