991, 953. Protective sheaths for ropes and cables. PREFORMED LINE PRODUCTS CO. Sept. 3, 1963 [Nov. 26, 1962], No. 34728/63. Heading D1T. [Also in Division H2] A conductor 14 is protected from abrasion or short circuiting on a guy wire by means of a tube 12 surrounding the conductor suspended from a pre-shaped helix 16 gripping the conductor. The tube 12 has a slit 17 terminating in a notch 20 so that it can be forced open and applied to a suspended conductor. The helix, which has an internal diameter less than the external diameter of the conductor, is wound around the conductor to grip it and prevent axial movement of the tube which has an internal diameter larger than the external diameter of the conductor. A semi-circular portion 21 of helix 16 resiliently grips or is cemented to the tube 12. Slit 17 may be helical (Fig. 5 not shown). The protector tube may be made of polyvinyl chloride, fibre glass, insulated metal or paper and may be applied to the guy wire instead of the conductor, or to both. Preferably the pre-shaped helix is made from the same material as the protector tube, e.g. polyvinyl chloride.
