PURPOSE: A machine tool and a control method are provided to prevent cutting fault by moving a tool port to a change arm only when a machining shaft is moved in a changing position. CONSTITUTION: A control part of a machine tool comprises a next tool detection device, a first concurrent execution device, an operation detection device, and a changing device. The next tool detection device detects whether a tool(24) to be installed at a machining unit(9) is small-sized or not. When the tool mounted on a machining part is determined as a small size tool, the first concurrent execution device moves a storage unit closely to a change unit and moving unit(3) to a change position at the same time. The operation detection device detects the operation of the first concurrent execution device. When the operation is detected, the changing device changes tools by using a changing unit(18). |
