DUAL LAYER SOLID STATE BATTERIES

An electrochemical system includes a first substrate having a first surface and a second substrate having a second surface opposed from the first surface. Surface features are disposed on each of the first surface and the second surface in laterally spaced areas. The surface features are either projecting portions or recessed portions. Battery cell layers are disposed on the surface features to form a laterally spaced battery cells on the first and second surface. The battery cell layers are arranged so that portions of the battery cell layers on the first surface are in physical contact with portions of the battery cell layers on the second surface to form a plurality of electrically interconnected battery cells on the first and second surfaces to define a battery.
