PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a card reader which processes a substantially rectangular card conveyed in a lateral direction thereof, configured to secure contact pressure between an IC contact spring and an external contact terminal, even in processing a card having a magnetic stripe formed on one side in parallel with its longitudinal direction and the external contact terminal of an IC chip formed on the other side.SOLUTION: A card reader comprises: a magnetic head 7; and a head moving mechanism for moving the magnetic head 7 in a width direction of a conveyance path 5, and moving the magnetic head 7 between a head contact position where the magnetic head 7 can be brought into contact with a card 2 and a head retreat position where the magnetic head 7 is retreated from the conveyance path 5. The conveyance path 5 includes an opening 28 where the magnetic head 7 passes when the magnetic head 7 moves in the width direction of the conveyance path 5. The magnetic head 7 is located in the head contact position when the IC contact spring 59 comes into contact with an external connection terminal of the card 2, and is in contact with one side of the card 2. |
