PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display method and a display system capable of effectively using a screen on a display part.SOLUTION: A television receiver 2 cuts out an image according to pixel information indicating the numbers of pixels in the longitudinal and crosswise directions and image information indicating the image, which an image processing part 233 has received from a communication device. A determination part 232 determines the amounts of the numbers of pixels in one side direction and in a direction orthogonal to the side. A display determination part 234 determines whether the direction having the higher number of pixels in the cut-out image is displayed on a display 22 part along the vertical direction or the horizontal direction according to a determination result of the determination part 232.
