PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize an image forming apparatus while enabling detection of a cover opening and closing, in the apparatus having a shutter for shutting off a light beam path.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a laser light source 51, disposed in a chassis 11, for emitting laser light for forming an image; a BD (Beam Detect) sensor 59 for receiving the laser light and outputting a BD signal; a cover 12 opened and closed relatively to the chassis 11; a shutter 57 and a control part 80 for inhibiting the BD sensor from receiving the laser light when the cover 12 is open. The control part 80 executes a lighting process for lighting the laser light source 51 and a first determination process for determining whether the BD sensor 59 outputs a BD signal in response to the lighting process and determines that the cover is open if no BD signal is output in the first determination process. |
