PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an influence of unnecessary light generated inside a projection device on a projection image.SOLUTION: A projection device comprises: a reflection type optical modulation element that has an effective pixel area in which reflection light having a polarization state of incident light changed in accordance with an input image signal is emitted; an incidence optical member that causes incident light from a light source to be made incident to the reflection type optical modulation element so as to make an optical axis to the reflection type optical modulation element vertical and as incident light including a range of a predetermined light beam angle &thetas; with respect to a direction parallel with the optical axis; a light reflection member that is provided at an outer edge of the effective pixel area of the reflection type optical modulation element; an optical separator that separates the incident light and the reflection light, and extracts the separated reflection light; and a projection optical member that takes in the reflection light extracted by the optical separator, and projects the extracted reflection light. The light reflection member is configured such that an angle &phgr; formed by its reflection surface and a surface parallel with a surface of the reflection type optical modulation element and opening from an outside of the effective pixel area toward a direction of the effective pixel area is more than the light beam angle &thetas; and less than 90°. |
